Visual Studio 2008 is unable to preview report with the unsaved changes

Hi,

As I need to install the Visual Studio 2008 to a Windows 7 PC (as there is no longer support in Windows XP), after the installation and updates, the Visual Studio verison is 9.0.30729.4462 QFE (with Microsoft.NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1).

I have re-built the Project and import the existing report items to the Windows 7 PC (new PC), the report can be run as before. However, when I found that if I made some changes at the report items, and when I preview the report, the changes are saved automatically at the Preview. I have checked the setttings (Tools > Options > Projects and Solutions > Build and Run > "Before building" ([Save all changes] selected)).

In order to prevent it from saving automatically at Preview Mode, I have changed the setting to "Prompt to save all changes". However, when I start to update the report (e.g. remove a chart or add an image), then when I preview the report, it fails to show the latest change! It can only show the change when I save the report before the preview!

I have not encountered this situation before at the old PC! Can anyone advise on this? It seems it is ridiculous to save all changes before we are allowed to preview the report espeically we need to test the layout appearance before finalizing the work.

Since I can do the same thing at the old PC, I really have no idea on whether it is related with Windows 7 or any other platform or setup, but this question really annoys me! Can anyone please kindly advise? Or I have missed something in the setup? Thank you very much!

The SQL server now is running on 2008 R2.
